1. How does the design that you created demonstrate your knowledge of playing card design?
1. My Design demonstrates knowledge of card design through the idea of using reflections and repetition to convey a cohesive theme that runs throughout all three cards, and is a model for a deck of all 52 cards being unified in that way. Additionally, it shows my knowledge of card design by allowing for ease of read on the bottom two cards, which is what original cards strive for.
2. How would the rest of the deck look? What would you do for the other picture cards? Please describe in detail?
The rest of the deck would be very similar to how the original three look. For the number cards, they would correspond the shape with the typface numbers on top of the translucent shapes, with the words of the card (ie; three of clubs) at top on the center. For the picture cards, they would also be the silhouette behind the letters, using different types of fonts to show different ways to construct font pairings and displaying typography in a different light, yet with the same color scheme and idea on the background of the card.
3. How does your design demonstrate your knowledge of adobe illustrator?
My design incorporates the scissor and eyedropper tool for the top card, the use of the shape builder tool in order to make all of the shapes for the cards, the type tool to place the different fonts and pair them together, and using image trace to make every part of the card vector.
4. What do you feel was the most challenging part of this project and why?
The most challenging part of this project was coming up with the original ideas which would be placed onto the cards: putting the ideas that I already had onto illustrator was simple, but it was hard to narrow down a choice of what to specifically do with my card, since typography is a very broad topic and there were a lot of directions to go in with it.
5. If you can change one requirements what would it be and why?
I would allow us to be able to pick our own topic for making the cards, since I feel as though if we chose what we wanted to do for a card, it would be easier and significantly quicker to come up with the idea, since it would be something the person would enjoy and something the person would have been putting thought into from the beginning and would probably lead to a specific idea quicker.
